Safe Windshield Replacement

On impact, the windshield acts as a brace to support the airbag. If the windshield
separates, the airbag does not have a constrained space and is not effective in
protecting the occupant.

The windshield is intended to keep unrestrained occupants inside the vehicle.
During a crash, a person is 25 times more likely to survive if he/she is contained
inside the passenger compartment.

In a rollover accident, the windshield provides strength, keeping the roof from
crushing in on the occupants. In some model designs, the windshield supplies
up to 50% of the vehicle's rollover strength.

How serious is windshield replacement?

Quote from Autoglass Magazine, July 2003: "In late 1998, Doug Linderer, president of Mr. Go-Glass in Salisbury, MD, got a wake-up call. Three days after one of his technicians installed a windshield on a late model Dodge pickup, the truck was involved in a head-on collision. The occupants in the other vehicle were killed. Most people want to be sure their replaced windshield looks good and won't leak.
